Okay, so I have been really bad with checking in here. I wish I had more time... yet that really annoys me, because I can't say what has taken up all my time these last weeks. Maybe it is the heat! I don't have the AC on in my apartment (where the computer is) and I guess I am spending more time in the air-conditioned office (maybe that is it). Anyways... thinking of you often... let's ask Katelyn to turn on those sprinklers full blast!!! I will go dancing in the rain for sure!

Guess What!

When I stopped at mom's last night, I got out of the car and there was a purple butterfly flying around us.
Mom wasn't home when we got there but she later told me "yes, she has a purple butterfly"

I wonder if there has always been purple butterflies around but we never took the time to notice?
Of course as the story goes, who noticed anything purple before Katelyn!

Hi Katie it’s me, Kirkie!
I wish you were here to be with us on your second birthday but I know your spirit will be with us while we celebrate. I’ve been so bored since you went home to heaven. I haven’t had a single adventure and haven’t been in trouble once! How boring! I don’t know Brandon very well but do you think he’d cook up some mischief with me??
I can’t wait to see you again but I still have a bit to do here before my time.
You-know-who will let you know when I’m on my way, so there’ll be no excuse for you not to be waiting with Caillin and the gang! I’m holding you to it!

Even though you’re fully aware of what’s going on with your mom and dad, you need to know that they’re coping so well and thank goodness, their faith is growing stronger every day. They know you’re always with them and are getting really good at recognizing your heavenly presents and also listening to their intuition. They’re quick studies… you should be proud of your teachings this time around. Bet you got lots and lots of pats on the back when you arrived back home and started evaluating what kind of impact you had down here. It must feel great to get there and not have to go over all the mistakes you made this time around and only look at all the good you’ve done. It’s about time eh?

I know it was very hard work for you down here because it’s the same for me but look at all the good we’re doing for this world. I bet after you’re all rested up, you’ll be as busy as ever training all those young souls on how to handle life on earth eh? That is…when you’re not out in the memorial garden with your mom and dad.

Well, I don’t know if this note will fit in your balloon but it doesn’t matter. We know that we talk all the time anyway. Keep up the great teaching from your end and I’ll continue down here for a bit. We can compare notes and share lesson plans when we meet up again. Until then, great big hugs and kisses from me.
I love you, Katie!
Kirkland
Your boyfriend forever and ever,
Amen.

P.S. Dear Mother-in-Law,
I know my message is long. If you’d rather you can just send this:

“Forever your boyfriend, Katie!
See you soon.
love your man…Kirkland xoxoxo

Hi

Just visiting. I too love the Princess story. On our return trip from Sturgeon Falls last week, Joe and I were telling a story about our first dogs we had together. They were our first "son" and "daughter" before the real ones finally came along for us and our son Noah (7)still misses them. He asked if the dogs were in heaven and if he would see them when he went to heaven. When they come out with questions like that, you don't know what to say. I told him that since he loved and missed them so much and you would have everything you ever loved or wanted in heaven, they would be there waiting for him. I wish I would have thought to tell him there were some very special kids up there playing with and loving them for him. Hope you're up and around again Deb. Loved those jokes tonight. Laughing out loud all by myself like a freak. Hope there are no hidden cameras in here.

Love the story about Princess. If Katelyn is half the animal lover that her mother is , you can be guaranteed that Princess will be well cared for.

Hey Deb,
As you know I went back to work yesterday and didn't get to play in the yard all day............As soon as I got home, lunchbag etc. still in my hands, I got up to the sidewalk and guess who was there to greet me............Yes the purple butterfly! It was fluttering around my head, I think it missed me!
I don't know if I was happier to see my grand-daughter or the purple butterfly!

I was looking for a special solar light to put by Katelyn's tree, either a butterfly or a star...................Last night I was sitting outside and the lantern solar lights I have had for 2 years have butterflies on the glass.
I never noticed the butterflies on them before................
See how Katelyn makes you take a look at things so differently!

Hope you are getting stronger, day, by day Debbie. Still haven't thought of anything intelligent to put in the birthday balloon. The end of the week is approaching fast; so will think of something.

Good Morning! I hope all who is reading this is having a good day! I had Emailed Deb and Brian a story about my daughter Sarah who is 5 and she thought I should share it.....

We had found 2 kittens in our back feild, actually my Doxie, Buster found them. The female was sick from the start, after months of Vet trips and blood work, we lost her about 3 weeks ago..

We miss her so much and I think Sarah misses her the most, it's so hard explaining to them both! So last night before bed she asked me "why can't princess come back" We went through the "she was sick" explaination and she says "mommy she's not sick anymore right" "right Sarah, She's running around playing and can breath and eat up a storm"

As I'm walking out her door I hear a "mommy?" Trying to stay patient.... "Yes Sarah" ......

"Mommy, Katelyn can play with Princess" My heart blew up and with a simple "That's a good idea Sarah" I had to leave the room! So my sweet daughter has sent "her Princess" to play with Katelyn.... Another proud mommy moment...

Hi Deb and Angel Katelyn!

Thanks so much for stopping by to check on Caity-Did. You know, Katelyn was absolutely the most beautiful baby Deb! Her smile was so bright and contagious that I bet you could not help but smile too. I can imagine that sometimes all that you want to do now is just keep staring at her pictures. I can imagine that is what I would want to do. I would really like to send her a message up to heaven too, yet it has to be as special as she is (Not sure that IS even possible!!!) I will see what I can come up with tonight though, as I want to put some thought into it. Sending you love, hugs and blessings!

Hi Deb, I was at the Air Show in Moose Jaw this weekend (we left about 20 mins before the horrible fatal accident) but it was weird. In the middle of all that noise and crowds a lone white butterfly kept flying by my family and I. I immediately thought that it was Katelyn and that she was visiting with us but in hindsite, maybe she was there for a greater purpose.

"It’s not how tragically we suffer, but how miraculously we live" that quote on Katelyn's page means so much to me, especially as I meet more and more CB kids and parents. Before we had Alex, I never knew how much suffering there was in the world, or how much courage. Your quote just sums it up so nicely!

We were so sorry to hear about your recent surgery. We hope that you feel better soon!

I am curious to know HOW you got music on Katelyn's page. Either I had the sound off before, or it is new. In any event, I LOVE it, it is so fitting for her page. In fact, the song I would like to put on Alex's page is also by Martina McBride; Gods Will. I hope you will share the secret with us!

We look forward to them so much -I'm only sorry that I haven't replied personally to so many of you- I'm wiped to say the least! I wish there was a way I could just click on your guestbook entry immediately and be able to respond right there to your message. They really ought to have that availability on Caringbridge.
Nothing much is new up here. Kirk struggles with the "same old's". We were able to go over to Lisa and Scott's last night(you met them at the walk along with the rest of your fans) with Kirk and the boys and sat out the back til midnight. Kirk did well and was asleep by 10. I'm glad we were able to get out before today's heatwave hits. Kirk enjoyed all the lovings he got from his girlfriends Reise and Becca. Don't worry 'Katie'...you've still got that special place in his heart!
That reminds me, I've been really slack...Do we still have time for our balloon messages?? Hope so. We'll send them some time today. Kirk hasn't had the chance to get on the computer. I told him to get movin' yesterday but then he fell asleep...KIDS!!

Deb - Sorry you haven't been feeling well. Hope your better soon. Neat what you say abou the butterflies. There are days when every time I step outside with Sophie she will have 2 or 3 land on her. I always tell her it's the angels coming to check on her. Maybe Katelyn is keeping an eye on her new friend? I hope you don't mind I shared your sight with Mom. She just smiled and was amazed at what a beautiful baby you had. I think of you daily and will keep you in my prayers. Sophie wants to send Katelyn a balloon for her birthday. Hello Deb and Brian; Still thinking of you and your little Katelyn, even though not seeing the guestbook too often these days. I had a dream about Katelyn last night so she's fresh in my memory again! In the dream she was eating, so happy, looking like she was getting away with something! She seemed older too, maybe a flash vision from heaven??? I hope you are doing okay, going to read more guestbook entries now. Margaret

Hello to all. Although we have never met, I found your site and found your journey sad but also very inspiring. I find it helpful to read about the other families experiencing our pain. It helps me to understand that we are not alone. My daughter, Shelby was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue cancer on April 11, 2005. Her future is very uncertain, but we try to stay positive, keep strong and take one day at a time. Her caring bridge site is:

Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

What a great idea, sending balloons to Heaven!

I e-mailed my message and would be very honoured to have a special balloon sent to that very special niece of mine.

It was really hard to keep it short, the first message I wrote, I don't think the ballon would have got off the ground.I did make it short and sweet!

Deb....I miss you so much, the days all go into one and Katelyn, you & Brian are never far from my thoughts. Hours go by and before you know it the day has come to a close. My prayers are always with you and have added the extended family which you have brought into my world. Zachary is right there with everyone...strenght & courage is what I pray for all of us. Sorry I don't put that much in as of late...I do check everyday but my words just don't seem to come as I feel them...the feelings inside cannot be expressed I guess. I can share with you that I give Brandon (and Krysytna & Emily for that matter) much bigger hugs everyday, talk about thier day and thank god for each day. Brandon is doing well altough he does go through stages of missing Katelyn terribly...I try to kiss it all away although he would like to know when it stops hurting (since I told him it would get better day by day, silly me, it's not working for either of us), but I have faith that it will and the smiles that come to our face just by talking about you all is priceless. Both Brandon & I will send you separete emails for Katelyn's birthday. Thank you for being you!!! You and Brian are my inspiration to face life head on...heard a song the other day that now is my song for you (Bette Midler, Wind beneath my Wings).
Sorry for the long post guys. Love, Hugs & Kisses

Hey hope you are feeling better. You need to stay out of the hospital. Computor was down and then when we got it up and running,I was just to busy to sit at it. Coming home late at night and having to do paper work,(schedule,p&L). Hope every thing goes well with you.
I'm amazed on how fast time and days and months go bye.
Not sure what to say for Katelyn's birthday except wishing you where here to share it with, but I'm sure you will have the biggest birthday party with all the angles and friends that you have meet on journey.

Those pain meds can be a lot of fun eh! Brian that sucks about the chiropractor. I have had it mess me up before too. I think your right in saying Katelyn probably never would have had terrible twos...she was too sweet natured for that. I thought about her a lot when I was at sick kids yesterday. Katelyn is on my mind a lot so I cannot imagine how much you must think about her. I think sending off the balloons is such a great idea. It must be hard to think of a fitting tribute. Thanks for always signing our guestbbok Deb...you and Karen are my only frequent signers. I hope you are feeling better and enjoy the fussing over you are getting. Take care

Hi there,
Thanks for the heartfelt message Deb. Your support is always so comforting and makes me feel better. How are you doing anyway? You sound good in your writing! I was over at Kim Harlow's last night and she was asking for you and so was Kirk's former P.T. who's a member of the avid reader club LOL.

I am feeling a bit better today but have very low energy. I ran some errands with the boys today and then laid out on the swing while 6 of them swam for an hour and a half. I could really use a nap now but it's suppertime.
I meant to tell you that I planted Katelyn's 3 'plants' in my pool gardens so I'll make sure to dig them up for you the next time we see each other.
I hope Zachary's better and the seizures have settled. Have you heard anything else recently? I did check in on Katie's parents. Their plight is so horrible. I wish they didn't have to go over and over the circumstances that surrounded her passing. It must be tormenting and I really hope they can find some peace in their lives. I'm glad they have you and Brian as friends. I know that your words will be comforting for them at this time.
Deb, I'm here for you as you await your results. Please call or write if you're in the mood to chat.

Love 'you's' lots.

Really funny Katelyn and Caillin!

I noticed these to strange doves hanging around this week and now they have really done it!

I bought a Wigelia tree (the name reminded me of THE WIGGLES)with beautiful pink flowers, it stopped blooming and now that it started to bloom again this week all the flowers are WHITE!
First you two change my pink wisteria "PURPLE" and now my pink tree is "WHITE".
I know that it is your second birthdays but I didn't know angels went through terrible two's!
What next?
Grandpa must have his hands full with you two!

I really don't know what colour of floweres to buy anymore!
Have fun girls!

Hello Deb & Brian
I have been meaning to pop in and say hello ever since you were in Georgetown and Kirk's Mito March. Things have been busy and of course since the weather has been nice, and my volunteer job that brings me to the computer almost everyday is finished for the season, I find I don't sit down here near as much. It was so nice to meet you in person. Now I read that you are feeling a little under the weather. I do hope that you have a speedy recovery. Although you deserve the rest, so maybe you should take your time and get your strength back!
bye for now Wendy

Hello,Brian&Deb.Got a bit of downtime so I was able to visit Katelyn's webpage. No one said it would be easy...sometimes the hardest part is letting go of some things that remind you of Katelyn.Find strength in each other and among all the people that Katelyn has touched...Find solace in prayer.God answers prayers according to what's best for us inasmuch as HE lets things happen in our lives for a reason. Good job on the memorial garden. I'll keep in touch.God bless you both and your wonderful families.

Hi there everyone,
Hope all is well. Aren't you all just the gardening family- must be the farmers in you!
Things are stable at our house. The weather's been so nice. Kirk was out for several hours yesterday. He was doing so much better yesterday but today is really groggy. Let's hope tomorrow we have some answers and maybe it's just a new tube that he needs. I'm wondering whether there's a hole in this one and the fluid is squirting out in the wrong spot and causing some pain. It's happened before so who knows. Hope to see Muriel tomorrow but don't know whether I'll take him up to 7C- not worth the germs.
Will let you know what goes on.
love ya,

Good Morning,
I check your website at least a couple of times a week and am so inspired by your strength and courage through all you've been through the past year. I truly admire you and your family. Katelyn's story has just really touched me-can't even remember how I came across your website three or four months ago, but I get teary-eyed each and every time I read your journal updates. I lost my father 9 years ago and still miss him so. I've never lost a child-just had two miscarriages before my two sons were born, so I can't imagine how hard it is to lose a child. When my dad died and then my 17 year old cousin was killed in a car accident three months later, someone told me at that time that God needs all types of roses in heaven, so that's why He takes the young and old alike. Hard to understand, but do know our loved ones are all together in heaven. Thanks again for your wonderful website and again-you're truly an inspiration to many.

Here I am again, back on the computer after grocery shopping so I can catch up on the guestbook entries. I did not get to finish reading the memories earlier and there are many wonderful memories of Katelyn on here, and the picture's are so adorable, what a precious little girl you have been blessed with. Deb, you have some wonderful, wonderful sisters who were very involved in Katelyn's life, you are very fortunate to have them in your life as well as Katelyn. The memories they have with her are so comforting to read. They must be a healing stone and a comfort to you in many ways unspeakable. My family lives so far away thereful we do not get to communicate in the ways a family like yours do. I think I would like to buy them from you! They are very caring just like yourselves and like so many others have noted as well. The nice thing is, it is obvious you know to cherish a family so rare, beautiful! Bless you all.

Hello to Katelyn's family,
I have not forgotten about you, right now I am working 7days a week and long hours, today I took a day off and spent most of it catching up on your pages.hehe I couldn't stop once I got back on here.
The garden is absolutely beautiful, I admire the hard work and effort you have put into it in memory of your daughter. Only love could inspire someone to do a garden like that and in turn you always inspire me to be a better person.
Have you been able to do anything for the foundation or found any information in regards to starting one? I have not had any luck finding any information for you, sorry but I will continue to ask around and spread the word about this much needed foundation.
You will continue to be in my thoughts, I wish I could spend more time visiting your page, which by the way looks wonderful as always.

You were both in my mind yesterday. I didn't have access to a computer but my spirit was with you. Brian I'm sure you've heard it all and yesterday was an extremely hard day but I hope you felt the pride swell in your heart thinking of what a GREAT DAD you were to Katleyn and a great husband and friend to Deb. I've spent a whole lot of time at the hospital and you never missed a trick for Katelyn and Deb. All Dad's do what they feel they can do doesn't make it right or wrong but Kelly's words are right a few Dads out there can learn from you!! Hope you both have a great week.

Always thinking of you both. Brian, I hope tomorrow is filled with sweet memories of Katelyn. You'll be forever her daddy so celebrate that love you had and still have for one another. You are a model father and husband. So many men could benefit from spending a few days with you to learn what it's all about.
Hope you two have something nice planned for tomorrow. My heart's with you.

Hi guys!! Hope things are going well. I am still thinking of you often. This week I have been busy visiting and travelling around between Kitchener and Bowmanville... everyone's gardens are doing so well and there seems to be more purple than ever before... maybe I am just more aware of the colour now... but I think of you and Katelyn whenever I see the flowers (and even that vine-like weed that has the pretty purple flowers... so beautiful and delicate). Just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you!

How about adding some more memories about your little Angel? God Bless You! and Brian, Happy Fathers Day, I know Katelyn will be smiling down on you tomorrow :)

HELP!!

I need everyone's help!
I seen a garden statue in the spring that Katelyn's memorial garden needs and I can't find it!!!!!

Yes, it was ELMO! (about 24" tall).
My first thought when I seen it was- "Who would put that in thier garden?"

If anyone finds it, please let me know!

Good Morning Deb and Brian

I must say, I am very impressed with the memorial garden!
Everyone tells me I'm the creative one but WOW, I think you just beat me in that department!
I just love the feel of the garden, it just says "KATELYN, KATELYN, KATELYN".
Anybody can throw plants into a garden but you can feel the love that went into the garden, just as you showed Katelyn love when she was here with us.
Don't be surprised when we are missing Katelyn that you find strange people sitting her memorial garden just chillin'.

You guys are doing an amazing job! And I see that Katelyn's doggies are staying close and watching over her special gardens...how sweet...animals just seem to instictively know. It's all so wonderful, what you've created from your love for Katelyn. My favourite thing is her swing with the flowers in it...brought tears to my eyes...VERY special and touching...what a great idea!! I love it! Hope you are both well. Take good care. Hey Deb,
Just read your update!!! No apologies just the fact that you keep us all together is amazing. Katelyn sure has a way of making sure that we all stay together strong. You always mention how much we support you.....I truly don't know what I would do without the support you give me!!! Truly...justing thinking of you, saying to myself (yes I talk to myself people!!!) what would Deb tell me...Brian would have something to say to Brandon to make him smile...Katelyn(miss you babe), makes sure I know she's there, Katelyn & you two are who got me by during Brandon's last admittance, all the testing, talking, reflecting...so..Thank you Brian & Deb for keeping us up to date...just reading an update saying you're hanging in is enough to put a smile on my face and an flutter in my heart. Good friends are hard to come by but somehow I've lucked out yet again. Stay well and remember that Katelyn and yourselves are always in my heart.

Hi Guys,
Okay, I've got my new computer although the old one's still sputtering. Hope you received the rain we got today! I finally watered the boulevard lawn out front cause I was afraid we'd lose it and then of course it downpoured.
Nothing much is new around here- same old thing. Got a new batch of bracelets in today if anyone wants them. I arranged for us to set up camp at this year's fall fair so we can continue on with our mitochondrial awareness campaign and that's about it! Still working on the thank you's and following up with Sick Kids re: this year's donation.
I checked out your gardens- Wow! they're beautiful. I love the swing-but it does make me feel a bit melancoly. I imagine how you must feel while looking at it sway in the breeze and wish I could be there with you to help ease the loneliness.
I'm here though...always! And so is Katelyn. Don't ever question that!

love you,

I am a nurse on 7D. I took care of Katelyn a few times during her many stays. She was such a sweet little girl. She had the most adorable smile and pinchable chubby cheeks. She is missed dearly. Every time her name is mentioned (always with love), everyone that came into contact with her has a cherished memory to share. I hope that you are all well. This website is beautiful. You are helping people all over the world. You should be proud of yourselves and of Katelyn for do this.

Sincerely,
Melinda

Hi. My name's Leah. My best friend(cousin) died in December, 2004. I miss her so much. Your baby is so adorable. I know it doesn't seem fair. I read everything on this page and it's heartbreaking what your girl had to go through. "God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain, but God did promise, strength for the day. Comfort for the tears and a light for the way. And for all who believe in His Kingdom above, He answers their faith with everlasting love" I wish you all the memories in the world.

Love everything you have done on the website. I love going through it and seeing all the changes that you make. You seem to find the most perfect things to put on the website. I love what you guys are doing in your yard. If you want when you are done your yard, our yard could use some tender loving care.. Flash seems to think that everything is for him to dig up....
Kelly, no wonder that you and Deb are so close, you both have that same crazy energy that makes ME tired just by reading all of the stuff you guys are always doing. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Hi! Just swinging in thru Kirk's page.
The site looks great! It just struck me now that in all of the pictures - if Katelyn's not sleeping, she's smiling! And what a gorgeous smile! And no easy task I'm sure - with those cheeks!
I quite enjoy seeing little piggies on the websites now - such pretty piggies they are too!
Keep well.

Hi Deb and Brian...sorry for not signing in for soooo long. With all the Mito March stuff pretty much finished and the year-end stuff almost done at school (work), I'll be having much more time very soon to write more meaningful messages to you. It was soooo GREAT to meet you and your family at Kelly's...I did get a bit emoitional when you pulled up in the driveway at Kelly's. I know how VERY special it was to Kelly and Kirky to have you there for his big day. Hopefully there will be another time when we can all visit a bit longer! You've done such a beautiful job with Katelyn's web page...it looks GREAT! And it sounds like her garden is as beautiful and special as she is...it sounds like you're giving it as much care, love and devotion as you gave to Katelyn, which is so touching. You're both very courageous and inspiring as you continue on this journey and I admire you so much. I will write again soon. Take good care and stay cool. Lots of hugs from Kirky's Aunt Tracey

P.S. I do believe those feet belong to Toby!!

It's no wonder Brian couldn't keep his eyes off those beautiful feet!
Don't be jealous Debbie, maybe with a little work, your friend can help you improve the look of your ugly feet!

The garden is turning out beautiful and you are certainly right about having the feeling of Katelyn nearby when you are under her tree.
The night you brought the swing out, it gave me goosebumps just seeing that swing hanging in the tree again.
If you listen carefully , you can hear that giggle as she swings back and forth on the swing. She is always close by and that garden is such a comforting spot to be in. I am sure it will bring you great joy sitting there (if you ever sit) enjoying her presence.
Keep up the great work, it is great therapy for you and Brian even though every muscle hurts like.....crazy!

Hi all!
Busy...that's all I can say for myself. I'm sorry I haven't been checking in on either webpage for a couple of days. My creative juices are being used up elsewhere as I make scrapbook thank you cards for all the schools that supported the Mito March. I don't want to leave this job any longer because the school year's just about up.
Aside from that, I spent Monday and Tuesday mornings gardening- what a mess! Last year we were in hospital for planting season and then again for July so nothing was really done or kept up consistently. I'm getting there though. Still have the pool beds to plant but we still have no pool so I what's the diff? The pool store screwed up and didn't order the liner when we originally spoke to them-maddening in this heat! The boys have resorted to the lazy daisy to get cooled off.
I judged a track and field day for the schools last Friday, had a volunteer's luncheon at the school on Tuesday, went to the senior school tonight for a new parent orientation meeting-Yikes, he's only a baby!!!
Jody's unable to work tomorrow because she's in soooo much pain over her knee and ankle so tomorrow I'll be thank you carding it again and of course taking care of Kirk. I think I've talked her into going back to a bigger hospital for a 2nd opinion. Keep your fingers crossed.XX
Saturday, Gerry and I are off to the psychic and a lunch date.(Do you want me to ask for any messages being sent your way from heaven? Just let me know.) Sunday I have a Mito March meeting with the gang but have no nurse.
So there!!! If you're talking to anyone over at Kirk's webpage tell them to drop in here cause I appear once again to have written a quick journal update in your guestbook LOL and I won't be updating my journal because it's getting too late.
Kirk's not too bad- some really good days this week and then some really typical seizure days. Today he was very alert and had a good play session with Lois- hasn't been outside since the heat increased.
Okay...I'm going to bed. I feel like I'm pulling a 'Debbie'!(up at all hours)
I love the pic you chose for Katelyn's headstone. She's such a precious girly girl in it, isn't she? Kirk loves that one too!
Better go,
love you both,
Kelly and Kirkie xoxoxo

Hi Deb and Brian, just thinking of you and checking in. The picture you picked for the headstone is beautiful. It must have been so heart wrenching to do that task. I think the garden is a beautiful way to spend time with your angel. I'm sure she sends tons of signs that she is around you. I hope you can find peace.

Well part of the veggie garden is planted, but not watered.. I think that might be important... so Katelyn can start playing with the sprinklers again! Before the place I am now in was torn apart and renovated, there was this beautiful bush that I just loved... it got torn down/out and lost... a few years ago I found it starting to grow way out back behind a shed. My Mom and I rescued a few shoots and two of them are trying to look like bushes. One is about a foot high (one straight branch reaching up in the air) and the other is a six inch high 'bush'. Today I found one that I thought that I had lost, but found a little shoot coming out of the bottom... such resilience (sp?). It was their little pink flowers that caught my attention. I have never known the name of this plant and have always intended to find out... but now I know... it is the Katelyn bush! Not purple, but just as special. Maybe it has some fancy latin name, but around here if anyone asks, I will always refer to it as a Katelyn bush.

Hey Muriel,
Here is some gardening tips:
If you want a healthy garden---use Miracle-Gro
If you want a purple garden--use Miracle Girl and a little love.

If you have sore muscles----beats me, haven't figured that out yet!

OK Deb..hold on to your seat because I'm actually to some gardening today. OK so I'm not the gardening wizard but I do believe that purple is the hot colour this year. :) Even a beginner gardener like me could do it!

Morning everyone,
I know that everyone is awaiting a trip update with pictures....promise it will come! Brandon is doing well despite being back at Sick Kids. You know Brandon...always the quick smile...he is finding it hard being there and not having his girlfriend with him but I think he finds it comforting being able to speak about her all the time with the nurses, just her name can bring a smile to his face.

Well an update on what is planned for this admission. Well after alot of thought and talk between myself, hubby Dave and Brandon it has been decided to go ahead and have the Transplant assessment tests. Brandon has done a great job wrapping his mind around what everything actually means (hey probably better than Mom & Dad). There are totally scary thoughts, moments, are we doing the right thing etc..but we seem to get each other through them. Alie the Transplant Nurse Coordinator has been wonderful. Brandon really likes her alot so that is a bonus. Hey Deb...guess what..she's a soccer nut so you can guess that Dave & I don't have a problem with her LOL. You know in a nutshell it is a terrifying time lots of doubts but then you look at the possibilities what Brandon could do following Transplant and hold on to it tight. For our family it's forging ahead, no what ifs allowed, head up and keep the ball moving forward. Even though Deb & Katelyn aren't physically with us they are both getting us through. Deb I can walk down the hall to Tim's to get coffee and feel that you are walking with me..supporting me all the way. Katelyn, I look into Brandon's eyes and I know you are right there with him helping him deal with the fears and lifting him high when he thinks about the future possibilities. THANK YOU BOTH.
Brian, don't worry you are unforgetable...although I gotta tell ya I could still use a room partner heehee, remember Deb always said I could borrow you LOL. Gotta tell hubby Dave first though I guess not sure if he'll get the same chuckle heehee. Brandon & I are going to go to Swiss Chalet and you will be in our hearts (or should I say pepper).

OK..gonnna sign off for now..I have a house to clean since Dave is up at the Hospital with Brandon and Krysytna slept at a girlfriend and my little Miss Emily is with Aunty Edna so I guess I should get my act together and use my time while I actually have an empty house (doesn't happen that often).

Have a great day everyone.

Hello all. Hope everyone has a great weekend. You know we are thinking of you always. Deb, do you have any idea how many times I have seen those videos we took at your house. Kyle is driving me crazy!!! I'm soooo glad though that he loves something so much especially his aunt Debbie. You should see the look on his face and the tone of his voice when he asks to watch them. Hope you know how much he loves you.

Wow!!!!!!! it has taken me over 2 hours to catch up on Katelyns website. Mark has the livingroom ripped apart and haven't been able to get to my computer since last week. It will probably be another week before I will be able to get on here again as we are starting to do the drywall compound and I will have to close up the room again because of all the dust. Even though I won't be able to sign in, know that I blow a kiss to your Beautiful Little Angel everyday as I pass by....

I am so glad to hear that the walk went well. And Deb I had faith in you making it to the end as you have always had tonnes of energy. Back a few years ago (I won't say how many) it was hard to keep up with you as you could never sit for long other than to watch recored Soaps on TV...
I am signing off now so that we can start doing the livingroom. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend..

Hi Christine

Hey isn't it great that we have become friends from this wonderful webpage, even though I thought you were strange at first offering me your snakes and lizards for the benefit!!!!

If anyone is wondering, Christine was laughing at me cutting off gerber daisies off of live plants to change the colours of the flowers for a wedding tonight.
I then proceeded to tell her about the pink wisteria I bought and waited 5 years for it to bloom.
Well my pink wisteria finally bloomed this year and Katelyn changed the flowers to beautiful purple blooms!!!
I am hoping Katelyn doesn't change the colours of the gerber daisies to purple on me tonight or I am going to have a mad bride!

Every time something strange happens I can hear her laugh. Don't ever stop Katelyn, you sure make life interesting!

Okay you guys...they asked for pics of 'the feet'. You'd better oblige.LOL
Spent the day at Evan's track meet. I forgot the sunscreen on the back of my legs...yikes, they're burning up and are really itchy. Not looking forward to lying in bed tonight!
It was good though, Harrison PS did really well and Evan came in 3rd in the first heat so advanced to the finals in the 60m race. Then he came in 6th! I was a pretty proud but very tired mom when we got home. Now I can't move at all for fear of stinging. Thank goodness I had sunscreen on everywhere else.
Love your entry about the mito march. It really was so fun to be together again.
Take care of yourselves and have a good weekend.

Hi Deb,
I was just looking at the pictures of Katelyn again. She is just the most beautiful thing ever. Those cheeks. I bet you just loved to kiss them all over. I am definately a cheek person. I love to kiss Kari's cheeks. I can't do it on one cheek because she has a steri-strip from her biopsy. I will just have to wait til it comes off.
Please know that you are in my prayers everyday.
I love to read the memories that people post in the guestbook. Some of them have brought tears to my eyes. What a precious gift you had. if only for a short time.
Have a wonderful weekend and I will be back soon.

Deb, Brian and our Little Munchkin,

I am using Deb's computer as I don't have one.

First of all I have to say thank you to Brian and Deb for allowing Uncle Dennis and I to be part of their's and Katelyn's life. If only we could have had children, we have been very proud of them as they are exceptional people. Katelyn taught us all alot and will always be our precious Angel, always in our hearts and thoughts.

It is very hard to pick our fondest memories...
One of them would be how she liked you to sing to her as you held her. She would boogie with 1 leg swinging away. As soon as you finished the song she would look you right in the eye and smile till you started over again. Thank goodness she didn't care how well you could sing!

Another special time was her second trim (haircut). Deb and I would wrap a big bath towel around her to keep the hair from getting in her tubes. Just as I would snip off a piece of her hair she would pull the towel away and laugh.

God shared her with alot of people (for too short of a time) to remind us all there really are Angels, even on earth.

Hi,
I came across your website while visiting the CDG website. I wanted to write and let you know, you and Katelyn have touched my heart. My daughter is 14 months old and still undiagnosed, but her blood is currently being tested at the Mayo hospital for CDG. She has quite a few of the symptoms: hypotonic (can't crawl, roll, or walk), has a G-tube, failure to thrive, elevated liver enzymes, edema, gastro reflux (requiring a fundoplycation and pyloraplasty), countless infections (whooping cough, chicken pox, RSV, Mono, Sinusitis, yeast infections, ear infections, colds, fevers, etc. most of which we end up in the hospital, eight times in the past year), inverted nipples, unusual fat pads, etc, etc. The thing that hit home with your story is how happy Katelyn always was. My daughter Skylar Kaitlyn (my mother-in-law calls her Kaitlet) is always happy. If she is crying or fussy we know she is really hurting. Skylar also has the same chubby checks as your Katelyn (and likes the Wiggles). My heart goes out to you, because I know first hand how hard having a special child can be. Keep strong in your Faith, knowing God is caring for Katelyn. I look at Skylar as a gift from God which he is letting me borrow. Thank you for your story.
God Bless,
Tracy

Hi everyone,
Sorry I know you have all been wondering how Brandon is doing. He is doing fine...we're in for what we call a tune-up!! Still going to have some test done in anticipation of the Transplant Assessment which Brandon has been great about, he faces everything with that smile. Has his downtimes but hey don't we all!! Unfortunately we didn't make it through the walk but we will keep our fingers crossed for next year. We should be here for the 14day reservation at downtown Sick Kids hotel. Hey the weather is good at least and we can do a lot of walking around at night!

Deb...oh Deb, just not the same without you. Something is missing and it's Katelyn. Although, I must admit she is definately here in our hearts. It has been difficult for Brandon coming back to 7C knowing his girlfriend was not going to meet him here but every corner we turn brings a memory which brings a smile to our face. Walks to Tim's, sitting at the end of the hall having Katelyn bring us all to tears laughing, the pictures of her everywhere and the nurses are great, we love talking to them about Katelyn about you and Brian and what a great extended family Brandon now has via his girlfriend. Deb...don't ever worry about anyone forgetting your little princess I can tell you from my heart that it would be IMPOSSIBLE TO DO!!, she & her Mom and Dad have touch so many of us in so many ways her memory will always be with us! Everyone here on 7C sends their best and everyone has asked about you and sends their love. Hey I was even singing mine and Katelyn's song last night much to my son's horror!! Deb...smile and remember .... Do your ears hang low do they wobble ..........you know the rest :)

Kelly I am so happy the walk went well and I know Deb would do us all proud with her new shoes!!! heehee

Take care and I will be checking in!!!

Your angel is beautiful. The memory about the Wiggles touched me. Just yesterday, my 18 month old sat in the computer chair in front of the tv and watched the Wiggles. He actually fusses when the credits roll. When he was younger I swore he could tell time. If the tv was not on, he would turn it on at 11:30a.m.(Wiggle time) Like you, I am getting ready to go put the Wiggles on for my Wiggler. I wanted to say hi, and let you know your angel has touched me. Take care. My thoughts and prayers are with you(everyday during Wiggle time)...

I want to add a quick memory first.

I bought this Little Tykes plastic sled for Katelyn to use in the winter. It was getting difficult to carry her around the yard for long periods (the cheeks weighed too much) and pushing the stroller around the grass was worse. I decided to put her on the sled in the summer and pull her around. She absolutely LOVED IT! I was pulling her up the lond sidewalk that leads to the back door and it tipped over the edge and little bit and onto the grass, she thought this was hilarious.

She loved it outside but unfortunatley because we cut back the time she was given the TPN in the summer from 16hr to 14 hrs a day so we couldn't leave her outside for too long because of dehydration. She loved every minute of it and appreciated everything about the outdoors when she was out!

I love you and miss you Boo.

There is a problem in the guestbook, as you can see below there are a bunch of entries underlined. I have asked caringbridge if they can fix it. In the meantime, I posted a pic for Bonnie of Katelyn's first smile and it got lost, I will try it again. What a wonderful memory that day was. man, I love that girl.

Oh, I will update soon. I have been very busy and hurt my ankle to boot. I want to update when I am not tired so it will actually make sense!

Morning everyone!
Hope you're all rested up and will enjoy this glorious weather! Michelle- I wanted to mention the cd's that you sent down for me. I'm going to sit down with a coffee later on and read through those poems. It was very thoughtful of you to send them for me. They'll always remind me of the bond we all share due to our special needs kids. xo I so appreciate your heartfelt entries in Kirk's guestbook but haven't had enough free time to write you back. That goes for all of Katelyn's fan club. I want you all to know how much you mean to me!
Muriel, I hope everything's okay with Brandon. Are you in Sick Kids? I'm assuming so. I'll try to pop down one night soon if he's well enough. I feel for you both and am so thrilled that our little man had his trip and fought to participate in his walk. I haven't pledged yet so I'll email you for instructions. Tell Brandon we're cheering for him to get out of there.
Sorry Deb and Brian for using your guestbook as a community message board. It's so convenient to 'chat' through you being that I know everyone who loves you will be checking in AND SIGNING YOUR GUESTBOOK at some point today.
Have a good one. I'll be posting the totals from the March as soon as I know.
hugs to all,

The fondest memory I have of Katelyn is a game we use to play.. I would say “I’M GONNA GET YOUR KISSES”.and kiss her neck.
She had the fattest cheeks and you would have to wiggle your lips into just the right spot to get to her neck and she would just giggle.
She knew that it was coming and she would scrunch up her shoulders so you really had a hard time getting past her shoulders and her fat cheeks to get her “tickle spot” on her neck.
It was just heart-breaking if I had a cold or been around anyone that was sick and couldn’t kiss her neck. I would say the words and dad or mom would do the kissing part but it just wasn’t the same.
It was the greatest feeling in the world to have her fat cheek up against my cheek and to hear the sound of her giggle in my ear.
This memory is what I will treasure forever and I would give anything to have just one more chance to “GET HER KISSES”

Katelyn, you brought so much joy to my life.
I miss you so much and I will always treasure all the happy memories we had together.
Love You forever,
Aunt Bonnie

Sorry about any sppelling or grammar errors in the entry below. The program wouldn't let me back in while I was previewing it to make changes so I just sent it so it wouldn't get lost.

Hi Guys!
Sending big kisses your way for coming all the way up here in Kirkland's honour! It was so special to everyone that you were here. It's been kinda funny- my friends and family will compliment us on the fine job we did and in the same breath say how nice it was to meet Deb, Brian, and Katelyn's aunts. They care about you so much. I think you were as much a highlight as Matt Stajan. (I know Brian, you're probably thinking, "Hmmm..that's not hard to do considering he's a Leaf!" Right? Just to let all the Philly fans know, Brian was true to his team and just couldn't bring himself to get Matt's autograph! You hockey fans kill me!
And for all of you who've been razzing Deb for the past couple of weeks- you'd have been proud of her- NOT EVEN WINDED WHEN SHE FINISHED AND...IN GOOD TIME TOO! Musta been those new shoes!
Thanks to all of Katelyn's fan club members who have been great at encouraging us during the preparation for the event and also to those who bought bracelets and t-shirts. Kirkie appreciates it so much.
We have a big shipment of Mito March: Kure for Kirkland awareness bracelets coming in soon and also have XL
t-shirts for sale if you want one for $10.00. Just drop me a line by clicking here and I'll mail them down.
Anyway...back to you Deb, Brian, Conn, and Marg- I so enjoyed our visit on Saturday. I'm only sorry things had been so chaotic around here during the day due to the March. I wanted to have a BBQ and entertain you properly.

I'm not really in the habit of letting my guests do the gardening Connie but boy, I was out their tonight assesing the work I need to put in and...my goodness, how did you clean all that up in such a short time? You're a maniac gardener!! Thanks for your help. Now I can mix in some topsoil, do some edging, and get planting tomorrow.
Don't worry Toby...I understand why you couldn't do the gardening with Conn due to your beautiful feet and all that!
I'm thrilled that we got to meet you Toby and Kathie. That worked out beautifully and was a lot of fun. Don't forget our girls' night sometime soon- you too Muriel and Angela!
I know why you all grew to depend upon each other so much during hospital stays and outside too- your spirits are identical. I so appreciate and admire how you're able to enjoy life and celebrate your angels, given the trauma of the last few months. You're all incredible parents and are a great source of strength for Gerry and I.
Marg I planted Katelyn's memory plant out in front of Kirkland's 'Rose of Sharon'. It's so pretty and has the same colour of flowers as Kirkland's tree. Hers will bloom in spring and his in summer. {{{Hugs}}} And Deb..the plaque is actually hanging on the wall beside our front door. I only put it there temporarily but it matches our house colours so nicely and the message 'Believe in Miracles' is visible from the road so I think I might just leave it there. It's such an appropriate motto for our families isn't it? I'll treasure it because of all it stands for. xoxo
D & B. you are both so special to me. Gerry really enjoyed getting together too and thought you were all so nice and easy to be around. I wish you lived closer but we will do all we can to get together right?
Christine, the magnet to Kirk from Katelyn is so sweet and is perfect to hang on his magnetic board on the wall beside his bed. Thanks for keeping the memory of their friendship alive! Wish you could have come down too but we will meet soon I hope.
And now, I'll sign off. I'm still wiped out from all the commotion. On top of Sunday outside, we spent the day outside at the boys' school track meet. Managed to get burned on the shoulders and am really tired from all the sun over the past few days.
I bet you were in the garden today, Deb eh? Checked in on you a couple of times earlier on but realized it was probably an outdoor day- not computer time.
Bye for now,
Love you for everything you've done for us,
Couldn't have picked better in-laws for Kirk if I'd chosen you myself! LOL

I can't believe it is the end of May already. I just want to thank everyone that took the time to put in thier memories of Katelyn this month. It is so important to Debbie and Brian to hear the stories of their special little girl.
Please keep signing the guestbook, even if it is just a simple "HI", just to let them know you are still visiting the website.

Memory:
I can remember in the beginning of Katelyn’s journey at London Hospital she was in critical care and the doctors didn’t think Katelyn would pull through. She was hooked up to so many tubes and machines that her parents couldn’t even hold her for days. She was swollen up,a tube down her throat ,wires and tubes coming from every direction.
Within hours we seen a miracle unfold in front of our eyes. The nurses removed the tube from her throat, started unhooking wires and she started becoming more alert and she was getting colour back in her cheeks..
The nurses placed Katelyn in Debbies arms and our hearts broke in two, after not holding their baby for days Debbie finally got to hold her and she looked up at Debbie and gave her, her first smile.
When we called Brian, we were so excited that he was sure we totally lost our minds.
This was one of the most remarkable days I have ever seen. The little girl we saw in the morning looked nothing like the little girl we seen in the afternoon. Even the doctors and nurses were stunned.
This is the way Katelyn lived. Just one amazing miracle after another.
It’s no wonder Debbie and Brian named her “Miracle Girl”

Deb, If you have the pics , can you add them on the guestbook for me!

I wanted to let Brian and Aunt Coco know how great it was to meet you today (unfortunately Deb was not around when Kelly introduced us).
How lovely it was to see Kirks face all around and then I happened to see the face of your beautiful angel on Brian's shirt!! It brought a smile to my face...and then a tear to my eye when I saw the message on the back. Her spirit was with us, I'm sure of it!
I wanted to let you know that I've been through the site and just couldn't get enough of her! I've been recently told that God has a special place in his heart for parents of special children. Especially when he brings them home so young.
Keep well.

I remember when Katelyn was in London Hospital in Critical Care, she was only about a month old. She was laying there with a bunch of tubes and wires running in all directions and alot of days we couldn't even pick her up.
The doctors told us to keep talking to her to stimulate her brain. There was only so many things we could talk to her about.
Debbie was trying to remember Nursey Rhymes. Debbie was having a hard time remembering any, so of course she had to make most of them up as she went along.
It didn't take long for the family to run out and buy new books to read to Katelyn but I think Katelyn always enjoyed Debbie's versions much better than the books.
I am sure Katelyn was having inner giggles even back then and it's no wonder Debbie and Brian had to resort to songs and commercials to keep her entertained.

Brian, I don't mean to leave you out of the stories about London but if you remember--every time I knew you were coming--I LEFT!

Good Luck to everyone that is walking today!

Brandon, you are a very detirmined young man and I think it is great that you are doing "THE WALK" today. I hope that Debbie got ahold of your mom so that we can sponsor you..
I can see why Katelyn picked you as one of her boyfriends- you both have a inner strength that nobody can stop!

I need to tell you a story about Debbie----
When we were kids we did a 12 mile walk (yes in those days it was miles, not Kilometers). Our walk was down a country road that led back to our family home.
Debbie decides she is going to jump the ditch and cross over into a field and steal some peppers (did I tell you this was for the church?). She got her peppers and started eating it and it took a few big bites before she noticed that she stole HOT PEPPERS
With her mouth on fire she started getting watery eyed and choking and in those days we didn't carry water bottles so Debbie had to make a quick run to the nearest stop for a drink of water.
So if Debbie starts to drag her feet today, just give her some hot peppers---that will get her to the finish line!
